A testimonial of a Walk & Talk from Jennifer:
“My Walk and Talk appointment with Brooks Palmer was like catching up with an old friend, with the added bonus of not feeling guilty for having the conversation center around me. The latter part took a little getting used to, but he made it much easier by gently and firmly leading the conversation and asking me what was going on for me.
He had some good insights about how my past has made me the person I am today, and that I am not completely in control of who I am and how I react to things. That also lessened my tendency to feel guilt for not having everything in my life working perfectly. It helped me to feel compassion for myself, which I think is really important.
He even had some suggestions for me to implement on my own, including journaling. Instead of feeling that I am a failure for not fixing everything immediately, he made me realize that life is a process and we cannot change the past. Regrets are traps that can keep us stuck. Acceptance of what has happened and the willingness to look at the way things are now are the keys to getting unstuck, he says. That kind of intimidated me until he added that sometimes the very act of looking at things and talking about them is enough to jump start changes occurring.
I’m kind of quiet sometimes, but Brooks kept the conversation going for a full hour. He told me that sometimes it takes a while for things to sink in and sometimes hearing things from an impartial 3rd party can really help.
The best part about talking with Brooks was feeling that I am NOT crazy for feeling the way I feel. I also think that wallking while I was talking helped me to be more open to new ideas and to feel less stuck. The very act of physical movement helped break the illusion of my mental and emotional stuck-ness.
I’d really recommend you give Brooks a try. The delightful voice he uses in his books is what you get to experience one on one. What a cool thing. It’s obvious that he really cares about people and that alone can be enough to help restore your faith in humanity during troubled times.”
