Today I pruned the lemon tree in our backyard. It took about two hours to clip away a tremendous amount of deadwood branches. I didn’t notice the passing of time though. I got lost in the process. It felt like meditation.
I thought about how the pruning felt like clutter busting. Both activities involve looking for what doesn’t serve anymore. It’s a basic and simple process of looking and asking, “Is this living or dead?” By having that in mind, the stuck mind falls away and the vital mind takes over.
And the great thing is, when the deadwood goes, it makes room for what’s living. It allows for the flow of life.
