This morning I had two interesting experiences that I want to share. The first was when I was driving home from an appointment. I drove by the local graveyard and noticed the majority of the gravestones had flower bouquets resting on or next to them. I was impressed by the contrast of a symbol of death, the gravestone, with a symbol of life, the flowers. It was like two opposite ends of life were casually hanging out. I had the feeling that life and death are very comfortable around each other. Things are constantly dying and things are being born. It’s a sweet flow.
The other thing that intrigued me was when I taking a walk around our property. I like to take a daily stroll around where we live and look at how things are growing. I think of it as saying hi to the trees and plants. This morning I happened to notice a small bush growing behind our well. I’d never seen it before. It wasn’t flashy with bright colors and flowers. But it was green and thriving. It had a really nice presence. I felt like it was saying, “Oh, hi. Nice to meet you.” I thought about how there’s a lot of nice and simple things in the world that aren’t advertised in commercials, or come with a huge price tag, or that people don’t fight over.
