I got by with a little help from my friends

October 24, 2019 by Brooks Palmer 2 Comments

This morning I got up really early to drive my partner Julia to the airport. It was pitch black out. In the distance we saw a large fire. It was far enough away that we weren’t in danger. But it was scary because we live a half hour from Santa Rosa, where there were destructive fires two years ago. I dropped her off at the airport, and drove home feeling nervous about the current fire.

Later I drove to the doctor for a regular physical. When I got there, they had me sit and wait in one of the examination rooms. Luckily what I saw there gave me a feeling of joy and relief from my worries. On the wall were paintings of happy creatures. My favorite was a blue elephant, wearing a red and white stripped hat, about to eat a cupcake.

And then there was the tall and joyful giraffe.

And of course, the “what, me worry?” cloud.
