I did a series of paintings this week that, while doing them, felt like they were expressions of connection. Not just between people, but people and their things and environment and activities.
For me, connection is one of the most fascinating feelings there is. I think it’s the one feeling we essentially crave. If we feel connected with another person, or a thing or activity, we feel satisfied. If we don’t feel connection, sorrow begins to take over.
When I feel connected, I have everything. I’m taken care of. I don’t feel any kind of aching for more.
The presence of things in my life that don’t take care of me, that deplete me, take away my feeling of connection. That’s why I try and be vigilant to notice the clutter, so I can get rid of it and get back the feeling of connection.
